The Jesus Walk

Life Is Meant to Be Done Together
There’s something powerful about walking alongside someone.
A walk gives you time to talk. To listen. To ask questions. To laugh. Sometimes, it gives you the space to have the conversations you wouldn’t have anywhere else. When you walk with someone, you’re not just going somewhere—you’re sharing the journey.
That’s part of what makes Jesus’ final journey with His disciples so meaningful.
In John 14:31, Jesus tells His disciples to get up and go with Him. They leave the Upper Room and begin walking toward the Garden of Gethsemane. It was roughly a two-mile journey across the Kidron Valley, and along the way, Jesus continued teaching His disciples. Much of what He said is recorded in John 15 and 16.
We're calling this journey The Jesus Walk.
And while there is certainly a lot for us to learn from what Jesus taught during those chapters, there’s another part of the story that is easy to overlook:
Jesus walked with other people.
He didn’t make that journey alone. He walked alongside His disciples, teaching them, preparing them, encouraging them, and sharing life with them.
And that’s important for us to remember because the Jesus Walk is ultimately a walk with other people.
We Were Made for Connection
Life was never meant to be lived in isolation.
Throughout Scripture, we see that God created us for relationships—with Him and with one another. We need people who will celebrate with us when life is good, sit with us when life is hard, challenge us when we need it, and remind us of the truth when we lose sight of it.
Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 says, “Two are better than one... If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”
That’s what Christian community is supposed to look like.
We should be people others can lean on. People with whom we can be honest. People who will listen without judgment, offer encouragement when we need it, and walk with us through whatever season of life we may be experiencing.
Not perfect people. Not people who have everything figured out. Just people who are willing to walk together.
Finding People to Walk With
That’s one of the reasons we believe groups are so important at East Side.
Sunday worship is an important part of our faith, but following Jesus was never meant to stop when the service ends. We need places where we can move beyond sitting in the same room and actually know one another.
Fall Groups are an opportunity to do exactly that.
They’re spaces to build friendships, grow in your faith, ask questions, study Scripture, pray together, and simply do life with other people. They’re places where you can show up as you are and begin finding people who will walk alongside you.
And this fall, we have a number of opportunities to connect—including groups built around our Everyday Disciple daily discipleship journal.
Become an Everyday Disciple
Our Everyday Disciple journal is designed to help us develop a daily rhythm of following Jesus—not just on Sundays, but every day.
But there’s something special about walking through that journey with other people.
We’re facilitating groups that will go along with the Everyday Disciple journal, giving you an opportunity to read, reflect, discuss, listen, pray, and grow together. It’s a chance to take what God is teaching you and share it with others who are walking the same road.

The Walk Continues
As we begin our new sermon series, The Jesus Walk, we’ll be following Jesus and His disciples through those two miles from the Upper Room toward Gethsemane.
We’ll listen to the things Jesus taught them about remaining connected to Him, loving one another, navigating difficult seasons, and living faithfully when the road ahead is uncertain.
But we’ll also be reminded that Jesus didn’t ask His disciples to walk alone... and He doesn’t ask us to, either.
There will be seasons when we need someone to encourage us. Seasons when we need someone to pray for us. Seasons when we need someone to tell us the truth. And there will be seasons when someone else needs us to be that person for them.
That’s what it means to walk together.
So this fall, find some people to walk with.
Join a group. Start a conversation. Make room for someone else. Be honest. Be present. Encourage one another. And take the next step together.
Because life is meant to be done together—and following Jesus is a walk we were never meant to take alone.
Join us this Sunday as we begin The Jesus Walk and discover what Jesus has to teach us about walking with Him and with one another.
Sundays at 9:15AM & 10:45AM
