New Year, Same God
Johnny Elder, Pastor of Youth Ministries
I’ve always been a big fan of New Year’s resolutions. While I know I can start a new challenge or goal anytime, the idea of a fresh “1/1” on the calendar sends the analytical go-getter within me into overdrive. It seems every year I have a slew of new things I resolve to do that will ultimately improve my life and make me a better reflection of God’s goodness into the world.
The re-occurring problem I run into is that daily life doesn’t change just because the year does. I make these plans for how to transform and improve my life, yet the situations around me stay the same. I get fired up about going to the gym every morning, or reading more, or saving money, but when the rest of my life doesn’t change I find my resolutions taking the backseat, before they leave the car entirely by mid-February.
But this year I am going about resolutions different. I had the privilege of debuting a new sermon series this past Sunday that is all about God continuing to move in and shape our lives despite the circumstances around us. While in this world we will have trouble, and there will nearly always be something causing grief, but there are no circumstances that are too big for God to renew, redeem, and rebuild.
It is my prayer that each and every one of us would experience His redemption, renewal, and rebuilding in whatever brokenness we bring into 2026, and that we would move forward in the wholeness and completeness that only comes from the love of our Savior and Creator.
