A Holy Day: Celebrating 75 Years of God’s Faithfulness
Kerry Robinson, Lead Pastor
Throughout both the Old and New Testament we see the people of God celebrating God’s activity in their life with days of worship and fellowship. There is something significant about days that cause us to remember what God has done in our life and to set our sights on the promises God has made to His people. Some call these days, Holy Days.
On September 16, 1951, 200 people from Anderson and Madison County gathered in a newly constructed red brick church building on the corner of 5th and Harrison Streets to thank God for calling them to serve together as East Side Church of God. They were joined by Pastors and lay leaders from several local Church of God congregations to celebrate God’s activity among them. It was the birth of a local congregation that would grow beyond any of their dreams and expectations as the followed the direction of the Holy Spirit in sharing the good news about Jesus. Individuals and families throughout Madison County and Central Indiana would discover the hope of Jesus in their lives through the ministries of East Side. Missionaries would find support and encouragement through the ministries of East Side. College Students would find a place of support as they sought God’s direction for their lives. God would expand the reach of East Side Church of God around the world.
On September 20, 2026 hundreds of people will gather on the corner of 5th and Harrison Streets in Anderson, Indiana to thank God for all that He has accomplished through us over the last 75 years. There will be laughter and joy in our hearts as we remember those who have gone before us. There will be moments of memory as we see the pictures of those who served us well and are no longer here. We will celebrate all that God has done among His people at East Side Church of God. And we will rejoice at the faithfulness of the God who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow as we set our sights on serving Him into the future He holds for us as His people.
I hope you will join us for donuts and coffee and pictures and memories at 9:00AM, for worship and celebration at 10:00AM, and for food and fellowship at the Fall Fest at 11:30AM. It promises to be a Holy Day.
