A Summer Song for the Soul

Pastor Kerry Robinson

All of my life I have been surrounded by music.  Whether it was my parents singing in church, the piano lessons my mother made sure I attended in elementary school, the vinyl records whose music filled our home, the thousands of hours I have listened to Becky rehearsing and singing throughout our marriage, or the voices of my granddaughters singing the songs of childhood music has filled my ears and my heart.  Perhaps that is why my soul is drawn so frequently to the book of the Bible that is named Songs, or Psalms.

While my soul is touched by the words of Psalm 1, 56, 103, 131 and 139, the words of Psalm 23 are the words that make the biggest impact on my life regardless of my circumstances.  I find myself whispering them in the evening before I sleep and in the midst of a myriad of circumstances throughout my daily activity.  I have watched them comfort the hearts of people standing at a graveside and strengthen the dreams of those starting a new journey as followers of Jesus.

As we enter these first few weeks of summer here in Indiana with the promise of sunshine and warmer temperatures (both of which seemed to be on pause during the month of May!), our Sunday worship at East Side will be focused on Psalm 23.  I am referring to it as A Summer Song.  We will explore the amazing relationship between a shepherd and their flock as well as the profound insights it provides into the relationships between Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and those of us who call Him our Lord and Savior.

I encourage you to make plans to join us on campus or online every Sunday at 9:15AM or 10:45AM EST.  If you are traveling you can join our on-demand stream at any time on our website, es.church.  Let’s allow the music of this song of David to become A Summer Song in our hearts.
